Gordon Secures Independence Party Line In NY-02 Open Seat

BABYLON, NY— Lt. Colonel (Ret.) Jackie Gordon will have the Independence Party line on the November 2020 ballot.

“As a combat veteran, Councilwoman, and educator, Jackie Gordon has been a strong and independent voice fighting for Long Island families,” said Frank Mackay, Chairman, Independence Party of New York. “Jackie will bring fresh ideas and new leadership to Washington and will deliver results for all Long Islanders.”

Securing the Independence Party line shows a coalescing of support behind Gordon and follows on the heels of her earning the endorsement of the United Auto Workers Region 9A New York Area CAP Council last month.

“Earning the Independence Party line solidifies what people in our community already know -- Jackie will be a representative for all Long Islanders, regardless of their party affiliation or ideology,” said Jackie Gordon for Congress campaign manager, Meg Scribner. “Serving in the military for 29 years, Jackie never asked a fellow soldier if they were a Democrat or Republican. That's the kind of service she'll bring to Congress, putting partisan politics aside to do more for her constituents.

The Independence Party is the third largest party in NY-02. In 2018, Congressman King had the Independence line and received 2,535 votes on that line, roughly 17% of his margin of victory.

In addition to the UAW, Gordon has been endorsed by EMILY’s List, End Citizens United, the Congressional Black Caucus PAC, Vote Vets, New Politics, and Planned Parenthood Action Fund. She was named to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s highly-competitive Red to Blue program in January.

Both Cook Political Report and Inside Elections have shifted this race in Democrats’ favor, indicating that this open seat is indeed competitive and ready to flip.
